News, Grooves & Happy Snaps

February 07

Well, we just got back to the Sunshine Coast after 2 weeks away that took in the Exodus Festival at Bald Rock near Tenterfield and the Tamworth Country Music Festival.

Exodus was fantastic, great vibe, lots of DJ's and some bands, we loved it and recommend people to go. We performed only once (at 1.30am!) but will try and get on the main stage for next year.

It's no easy gig busking for nine days straight on the famous Peel Street, "Boulevard of Dreams" at theTamworth Country Music Festival. It is hot, dry, dusty and usually country, but we came second in the 2007 Bisley Australian Music Busking Championships last week.
No guitars in this tribal fusion outfit, plenty of drums, didge, flutes and the unusual hammer dulcimer, delivering all original material captivating audiences and judges alike. On presentation of our prize, the judges commented on the consistently large crowds attracted by Jabaru's unique sound and energy. Crowds loved the opportunity to win CD's at impromptu dance contests during our sets.

"It's a fantastic festival, the biggest street party in Australia", said Rodger, "We wear cowboy hats and call our music 'Tribal Country' which people really like".

"We love playing on the street and the quality of busking talent especially from the young performers was awesome," Rene commented, "So many people we met at Tamworth had seen us play all over, it felt like being home!"
